As part of the Black History Month celebrations in England, the African community in Merton organised a special event on Saturday, 11th October 2025, to commemorate the struggles and achievements of African nations.

Syed Moeen Shah Sahib, representing the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, was invited as a guest speaker at the event. Shah Sahib delivered a thoughtful and inspiring lecture on “The Struggle of African People to Gain Independence.”

During his address, he not only acknowledged the historical journey of African nations but also connected these lessons to the universal Islamic teachings of justice, equality, and peace. The organisers introduced Shah Sahib as a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, and he took the opportunity to briefly explain the message and mission of our Jama’at, emphasising our commitment to serving humanity and promoting peace.

The event drew an audience of over 100 people from various African countries, all of whom listened attentively and expressed great appreciation for the speech. The organisers and attendees praised Shah Sahib’s balanced and enlightening remarks, describing his talk as one of the highlights of the event.

In closing, Shah Sahib reminded the audience that true global peace can only be achieved by embracing the motto of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:

“Love for All, Hatred for None.”

The impact of his participation was felt beyond the event itself. The following day, a local councillor sent him a personal message of appreciation, stating:

“Mr. Shah, you are a diamond in our community.”

This occasion provided an excellent opportunity to introduce our Jama’at’s peaceful message to a wider audience and strengthen community relations within Merton.
