An historic 40th Charity Walk and Bike Ride was held on 29th June 2025 at Waverley Abbey School, Tilford by the Beacon of Peace charity under the auspices of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association UK.
Building on a long history since the first marathon walk at the same location in 1985, the walkers and riders were set to surpass the £650,000 raised last year. Over the years, the event had supported over 650 UK charities and the total raised had exceeded £10 million.
Beacon of Peace Chairman Lutf Rehman expressed his heartfelt gratitude to over 1700 people who had come together to help those less fortunate. He was delighted that BoP had “borne testament to the power of unity and service, transcending all boundaries to support those in need”.
“Every penny raised makes a tangible difference,” he pointed out. “We are immensely proud of the collective spirit shown by our participants, volunteers, and the wider community.”
Alex Baker MP celebrated the way volunteers were “serving humanity without discrimination, fostering community cohesion, and promoting peace through charitable endeavours”.
It was also a day of fun in the sun for families with inflatables and ice cream included. Walkers and guests were treated to a delicious lunch as they rested at the end of a marathon event.
