Alhamdolillah, by the grace of Allah Almighty, Burton Majlis was given the opportunity to support the local community at the Winshill Village Fayre on 16 August.
Our mosque, Baitus Saboor, is situated in the village of Winshill, and we were approached by the local Parish to assist with the preparations for this important annual community event. Councillor Kim Smith, former Mayor of Burton, kindly requested our support in helping to set up the Fayre.
A total of 14 members came forward to help. Our members assisted with setting up gazebos, putting out tables and chairs, and helping to manage the flow of traffic due to the road closures.
The activity provided a wonderful opportunity to meet local residents and demonstrate the Jama’at’s commitment to serving the wider community. Several positive conversations took place throughout the day.
One lady attending the Fayre approached us and expressed how pleased she was to see our community taking part in the Winshill community. She said she was very happy to see our members helping at such an important annual gathering and mentioned that she had previously visited our mosque and would definitely be returning.
During the preparations, one of the volunteers asked when the next gathering would be held at the mosque, as he was interested in attending. Another member of the public spoke with one of our younger Atfal members and was very pleased to see the younger generation actively involved in serving the community.
We also had a positive conversation with a representative from Slimming World, who expressed an interest in establishing contact with Baitus Saboor so that they could work together with the Jama’at on future community initiatives, such as litter-picking and local clean-up activities. She mentioned that she had heard a great deal about the charitable and community work being carried out by the Jama’at and kindly provided her contact details for further communication.
Councillor Kim Smith greatly appreciated the support provided by our members and repeatedly expressed her gratitude for their assistance.
Alhamdolillah, this proved to be a very productive and rewarding activity. It was an excellent opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the local community and demonstrate the Islamic values of service to humanity, kindness and cooperation.
May Allah Almighty bless all those who took part and enable us to continue serving the community and building positive relationships with our neighbours. Ameen.
