The Charity Walk for Peace (now Beacon for Peace), a flagship initiative of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) UK, held its National Reception and Cheque Presentation event at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in London. This landmark event celebrated the spirit of service, interfaith harmony, and remembrance amid the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event commenced with the recitation and translation of a verse from the Holy Qur’an (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:216):
“They ask thee what they shall spend. Say, ‘Whatever of good and abundant wealth you spend should be for parents, near relatives, and orphans, and the needy and the wayfarer. And whatever good you do, surely Allah knows it well.’”
Welcome Address
Mr Zaheed Ahmad – Chairman, Charity Walk for Peace
Mr Zaheed opened the event by reaffirming the guiding principle of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community: “Love for All, Hatred for None.” He highlighted the achievements of CWFP, including:
- Over £6.2 million raised since its inception in 1985.
- Over £1 million raised in 2019 alone, including £500,000 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
- 100% of donations go directly to charities; administrative costs are covered by AMEA.
In 2020, despite pandemic restrictions, members volunteered at food banks, helped the homeless, and supported the Royal Voluntary Service.
Armed Forces Covenant Signing
The event featured the formal signing of the Armed Forces Covenant at the UK’s largest mosque. The covenant recognises the nation’s obligation to care for ex-service personnel and their families, ensuring no disadvantage due to military service.

Mrs Lynn Cooper – High Sheriff of Greater London
Mrs Cooper praised CWFP’s dedication to peace and charity, particularly in challenging times. She emphasised the charity’s impact in supporting justice, law and order through community-building.
Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP – Deputy Prime Minister & Secretary of State for Justice
Mr Raab commended CWFP’s 36-year legacy of service and the unifying message it represents. He noted that 2021’s walk was in memory of COVID-19 victims and thanked CWFP for supporting the “Shooting Star Children’s Hospices,” for which he is fundraising.
Dr Mansoor Khan – Vice President, AMEA UK
Dr Khan reminded guests of Islam’s teachings on compassion, quoting the Promised Messiah (as):
“Be kind and merciful to humanity for all are His creatures…”
He reaffirmed CWFP’s purpose of serving mankind without distinction.
Poetry and Cultural Contributions
Mr Javid Hamid – Poets for Peace
Javid Hamid recited an original poem titled “Flowers That Answered the Call”, honouring those who serve causes greater than themselves. The performance reinforced the theme of sacrifice and remembrance.
Special Messages and Covenant Recognition
A message was read from Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, First Sea Lord, recognising CWFP’s commitment to community and military support. Honorary Captain Ms. Ansari OBE represented the Royal Navy and spoke on rebuilding military-public relations.

Mr Ahmedi recounted the history of CWFP, beginning with 20 participants in Tilford (Islamabad, UK). He described current efforts, including:
- Eye hospital in Burkina Faso
- Water and electricity projects across Africa
- Educational and environmental initiatives
He reiterated the founder’s teachings on service to God and mankind, placing CWFP within the broader Islamic framework of service, equity, and environmental care.
Closing & Announcements
The event concluded with a silent prayer and announcements for a mosque tour and lunch. Guests were invited to participate in the walk or join the commemorative photo.
